Maine State Cemetery Preservation Commission Update

MOCA is launching a new online lecture series designed to increase member engagement throughout the year. These 60 to 90-minute virtual programs will feature presenters covering a wide range of cemetery, burial, and conservation topics—all accessible from home.

For our very first presentation, we will be joined by Helen Shaw, Chair of the Maine State Cemetery Preservation Commission. Helen, who was the driving force behind the creation of the Commission, will share the story of how the Commission came about and discuss its mission, structure, current work, and future goals.

Program topics will include:

• How the Maine State Cemetery Preservation Commission was created
• The mission and role of the Commission
• The make-up of the Commission and who its members represent
• Where the Commission is today and what it hopes to accomplish going forward

The program will be hosted by MOCA President, Walter Guptill, and will include a question-and-answer period.

All programs begin at 6 p.m. and run approximately 90 minutes. Participation is limited to the first 85 registrants.

While the programs are free, a donation is appreciated. All proceeds will benefit MOCA’s education and training programs.
