Civil War Gravestone Dedication*

  • Bion Willey Lane, Cherryfield, ME

The 20th Maine Infantry Honor Guard will dedicate a Civil War gravestone in a remote cemetery in Cherryfield

Sponsored by Legion Post 8

The event will be a march down Bion Willey Lane to the last house and then into the woods for 300 yards to the William Willey Jr. Cemetery.

We have spent two years getting a Civil War stone for Benjamin Downs Willey who returned home from the Civil War and died of wounds in 1866. His stone has disintegrated years ago and it took a handwritten map from the 1960's in the town library to locate which of the family was his grave.

Our Cub Scouts will clear the trail so the 20th ME INF can make it down into the woods.

Bion Willey Lane is on the left about a mile out the Ridge Road (off Rt 193) in Cherryfield.
