11:15-12:00 - "Gatchell Cemetery Genealogy" 

A brief history of the Gatchell Cemetery as well as modern day accessibility and the Pejepscot Genealogical Society's involvement in maintenance.  

Featuring a closer look at the few individual families buried there and how they are interconnected. In addition we'll look at some of the stories around the unmarked and "poorly" marked graves on the site.

12:00-1:00 - Lunch by a local girl scout troup

Cost: $7.00 (Pay at the door.)

Lunch: Menu is going to be a Baked Bean Supper type menu:

  • Beans
  • Hot Dogs
  • Salad
  • Cole Slaw
  • Rolls and/or Brown Bread
  • Some light desserts

Please if you reserve a lunch and cannot attend, send us the $7.00 as the host group has planned on that donation.  Reserving a lunch obligates you to pay for it.  Remember, you are welcome to bring your own lunch.

1:00 - Visit to Pine Grove Cemetery, resting place of Joshua Chamberlain and many other prominent Brunswick families.

2:00 - Door Prize Drawing during cemetery tour.  Must be present to win!

* Directions

From I295 Heading North or South: Take Exit 28 (Brunswick Exit). Eventually, this exit merges with US Route 1 north bound.  At the first set of lights, turn right onto Church Rd.  The United Methodist Church is approximately 1.5 miles on the right.  (Note: you will pass an older, smaller, Baptist Church just before the Methodist Church where we will be meeting)

From US Route 1 Heading North: As you come into Brunswick, Route 1 will merge with Exit 28 from I295.  Continue past the Irving Station and Goodwin's car dealership to the first set of lights (There will be a large Cumberland Farms on the left side of the road and a vacant store on the right) Turn right at this 1st set of lights on to Church Rd. The United Methodist Church is approximately 1.5 miles on the right.  (Note: you will pass an older, smaller, Baptist Church just before the Methodist Church where we will be meeting)

From US Route 1 Heading South: As Route 1 comes into Brunswick, there is a set of lights as Route 1 turns to the Right onto Pleasant St. (The Brunswick Police Station and a large laundromat are across the road as you turn right).  Continue down Route 1 through the next set of lights.  Continue straight, at the second set of lights (Just after Brunswick Ford) turn left on to Church Rd. The United Methodist Church is approximately 1.5 miles on the right.  (Note: you will pass an older, smaller, Baptist Church just before the Methodist Church where we will be meeting)
