We have revitalized the 20-year-old Stewards to conserve and repair gravestones, remove invasives, and insert a tool shed and water line in Portland’s city-owned Western Cemetery.

Following MOCA and other training in 2021, volunteers began work in 2022. Joe Ferrannini has been hired in every year since.

By 2024, more than 100 stones have been cleaned and repaired. Hundreds remain to be done in the 12-acre cemetery that doubles as a public green space in the city’s West End.
